HDD drilling fluid recycling unit
Our HDD drilling fluid recycling unit is developed for recycling bentonite drilling fluids in horizontal and vertical directional drilling projects. The system operates completely without screens and uses sedimentation and controlled flow to separate solids from the drilling fluid.
The goal of the system is to achieve a high separation performance with less than 1% residual sand, with a target value of 0.2% to 0.4%. In addition, it supports a circular and sustainable approach within the HDD industry and can be integrated into existing site logistics.
The installation has a fixed capacity of 2500 liters per minute and is built inside a 40 m³ container. This makes the system easy to transport with hooklift or cable systems and directly deployable on existing drilling sites.
The system processes contaminated bentonite with approximately 20% sand content. Heavier particles settle through controlled flow and sufficient retention time, while the bentonite fraction remains in suspension and is reused. The settled sand is continuously removed via a transport auger.
The system is built in a robust steel construction with minimal wear components. The transport auger is the only major wear part, with a service life of at least 5 years.
Thanks to its compact and integrated design, the system can be easily implemented into existing HDD processes with minimal logistical impact.
